Live Entertainment/Theatre

Elkhart Lake became a popular vacation spot in the 1860s when the railroad to Glenbeulah was completed. Many would travel there by train and then to Elkhart Lake by stagecoach. In 1872, with direct access to Elkhart Lake, travelers began to flock to this beautiful lake and the resorts in the community. As more visitors came, more resorts were built and entertainment was offered by orchestras and singing and theater groups. A pavilion and opera house opened. Picture shows entertained guests in the evenings.

The Osthoff Hotel dates back to 1885 when it had a large dancing and assembly hall. In 1955, it became The Harand Camp of the Theatre Arts  and was demolished in 1990 to make way for The Osthoff Resort and all its amenities.

And still today, hospitality and entertainment continue to be the prime industry here. Live music and theatrical performances draw visitors year-round.
